CS:GO the way you remember it — your server, your rules

CS2 replaced CS:GO, but the classic lives on: Valve kept the legacy dedicated server, and anyone can still play it through the CS:GO Legacy Version in Steam. Pick a game mode — competitive 5v5, Wingman 2v2, free-for-all deathmatch, Arms Race — set your map and tick rate, and your server is registered with Steam and joinable.

Why host CS:GO here

FFA, 2v2, comp — one dropdown

Competitive, Wingman (2v2), casual, free-for-all or team deathmatch and Arms Race are a game-mode setting, not a config-file ritual.

128 tick by default

The community-server standard, selectable down to 64 if you prefer matchmaking feel. Hard CPU ceilings mean a noisy neighbour can't eat your ticks.

Registered with Steam properly

Paste your free Gameserver Login Token (GSLT) at creation — required by Valve for internet play — and rotate it any time from settings.

The real files, when you want them

Browser terminal and file manager reach the actual csgo/ directory — drop in an autoexec, custom cfgs, or SourceMod if you know your way around.

Frozen in the good place

The legacy branch doesn't get patches that change the game anymore. Your jump throws are safe.

Sized honestly

CS:GO's server install is roughly 30 GB — pick a plan with 40 GB+ storage and the first boot downloads everything for you.

CS:GO hosting FAQ

Is this CS:GO or CS2?

Legacy CS:GO — the dedicated server Valve kept available after CS2 replaced the client. It is not a CS2 server. Players join it by installing the CS:GO Legacy Version, available as a beta branch of Counter-Strike 2 in Steam (right-click the game → Properties → Betas → csgo_legacy).

Why do I need a Steam token (GSLT)?

Valve requires every internet-facing CS:GO server to be registered with a free Gameserver Login Token. Create one at steamcommunity.com/dev/managegameservers with App ID 730 (it takes about a minute), paste it into the creation form, and your server authenticates with Steam. You can rotate the token later in settings.

Which game modes can I run?

Competitive 5v5, Wingman 2v2, casual, deathmatch as free-for-all or teams, and Arms Race — chosen from a dropdown at creation and changeable any time from settings. Free-for-all is real FFA: everyone is an enemy, respawns on.

How much disk and RAM does a CS:GO server need?

The server install is roughly 30 GB, so choose a plan with at least 40 GB of storage. 2–4 GB of RAM is comfortable for a full server; 128 tick mainly wants CPU. The first start downloads the game via SteamCMD — the dashboard shows the server running while that happens, and it becomes joinable once the download finishes (watch the live logs). After that, boots are fast.

Can I install SourceMod, plugins or custom maps?

Yes — the browser file manager and terminal give you the real server directory, so SourceMod/MetaMod, custom cfgs and maps install exactly as they would on your own machine. That's power-user territory; the stock modes work without touching a file.
